About the project
“Step Up!” is an EU-funded four-week group European Voluntary Service project, taking place in Tirana, Albania from 10/05/2020 to the 08/06/2020. VSI are looking for a group of 8 young people (18 – 24) to go to Albania to volunteer with school children and children with fewer opportunities (e.g. Roma children and those in street situations), to arrange and run activities with them and to hold workshops in schools, with support of PVN Albania staff team and long term international volunteers.
The group of volunteers will be delivering non-formal education sessions on the topics of discrimination and human rights issues, organising free activities, sport, English lessons, artistic creativity and other fun and educational activities in the schools of disadvantaged areas of Tirana. Majority of activities are in different areas of Tirana, however few there might be a possibility to travel to two other cities (Durres and Fieri).
The volunteers will also promote EU funded volunteering opportunities, volunteering values and PVN volunteer opportunities at the local community Universities and delivering materials on volunteering opportunities in Albania and abroad, especially ESC.
10th May: Arrival in Tirana
11th to 15th May: Induction and training: orientation, introduction to the project, activities and the methods, training on working with children (especially those children with fewer opportunities), planning activities
16th May to 6th June: Running activities with the children
7th June: Evaluation of the project
8th June: Departure of the participants
Working days and hours:
5 days per week (usually Monday to Friday), 5-7 hours per day, depending on the activity. In case the volunteers will work during the weekend, they will get days off during the week.
Shared rooms in a hostel in Tirana
The group of volunteers will prepare their own breakfast in the hostel. Lunch and dinner will be provided by the host organisation (vegan food available). Some days volunteers will prepare their own lunch and dinner, supplies will be provided.
The European Voluntary Service (EVS) is an EU funded programme that gives young people the opportunity to volunteer in an organisation abroad. The funding covers travel expenses to and from the project as well as accommodation, food, a small personal allowance (”pocket money”), insurance, and local transport during the project.

Projekte Vullnetare Nderkombetare (PVN Albania) is a nongovernmental organisation based in Tirana. It's the Albanian branch of Service Civil International, an international voluntary movement that aims to promote peace, solidarity and intercultural understanding through organising international volunteer projects, campaigns and seminars. PVN fulfils their aims by organising social, educational, ecological and cultural activities. The main target groups of PVN are people in need, especially children and young people with fewer opportunitites, people with disabilities and Roma communities.
