VSI is looking for young people aged 18-25 to take part in our free 'Youth for Climate Justice' project. The project will bring together a small group (approx. 12) of young people to learn about climate justice and how we can help to achieve it, empowering young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to advocate for climate justice.

Project Overview

From the 8th to the 11th of November, participants will meet on Zoom in the mornings for interactive and informal workshops on climate justice. Participants will use this learning to create a social media campaign around climate justice which will be shared widely by VSI. To support participants, an online advocacy and campaigning training session will be provided by an external practitioner. Participants will meet in person on Saturday the 19th of November for a one-day seminar in Dublin to reflect on the project and their next steps in climate activism, and to network with other participants. Interested participants will also be supported by VSI to organise and facilitate their own online climate justice workshop for VSI volunteers following the project. Professional online facilitation training will be provided to these participants to help them deliver their workshop.

We'll look at the climate crisis from a human-centred perspective, focusing on the inequalities created by climate change, nationally and globally, and recognising climate action as one part of broader action towards reducing inequalities and poverty, and creating a better future for all. We're looking for participants who care about climate justice and want to learn more!

Participants will:

  • Receive a certificate to acknowledge the skills gained and hours spent on the project

After the project, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Complete an online facilitation skills training session and facilitate their own climate justice workshop with VSI’s support
  • Attend an information session on funded EU volunteering opportunities for young people

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be 18-25 yrs/old
  • Be living in Ireland

Time Commitment

Online workshops on Zoom will run from 10:00 - 13:00 each day. Participants are encouraged to do a little follow-up reading/watching on issues raised in the online sessions in their own time (20 mins per day).

Following the online workshops, participants will work in their own time to create a post that will form part of the social media campaign that will be disseminated as a follow-up to the project. Participants should allow at least 3 hours for this activity, but can commit more time to this if they’d like.

A week after the online workshops, there will be a day-long in person seminar in Dublin (Saturday 19th).

Participants will be invited to create and deliver their own short workshop for the public in the weeks following the workshop, with the support of VSI. Finally, there will be an online information session for the participants on funded opportunities for young people to volunteer in the EU. Participation in these events is optional.

Support and Funding

Volunteers will be fully reimbursed for their travel to Dublin and one night’s accommodation will be provided for people living in areas with poor connections to Dublin. Meals and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

VSI can provide financial support to participants to ensure they have reliable internet connection during the online phase of the project if needed. If you don't have access to a device, let us know and we will try to provide a device for the duration of the project

If you require any further support to participate in the project, please get in touch with Aine and we will work with you to support you to join us on this project.
