The first hybrid SCI International Committee Meeting took place in Vienna, Austria from 6-10 December 2023. VSI member, volunteer and activist Tom Ryder represented VSI as an online delegate, read his report below.
"25 branches were represented at SCI's International Committee Meeting December, including 4 online.
Some of the main issues discussed were –
Approval of a new branch of SCI in Africa, VWAN Nigeria
Approval of a new SCI Group in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Workcamps Association
Adoption of a new Strategic Plan for SCI 2024-2027 along with a Plan of Action for 2024
The Budget for 2024 was approved
There was a lot of discussion about branches debts to SCI International and several old branch debts were written off
An urgent resolution on the Palestine/Israel conflict was adopted
A new Child Safeguarding Policy was approved
The International Working Groups of SCI Africa, Asia, Middle East/Mediterranean were approved. This still leaves a big gap with no active working group for Latin America and for SCI’s work with European partners.
The 2024 meeting will be in Penang, Malaysia next December."
