Maynooth University in partnership with Léargas offer an innovative NUI Certificate in European Youth Mobility Project Management 2018-2019: Building intercultural youth projects

This programme is the first of its kind in Europe and is the culmination of a two-year collaboration between Léargas and the Department of Applied Social Studies in Maynooth University.

Maynooth University, specifically the Department of Applied Social Studies, leads the way in the Irish higher education sector in partnering with external agencies to develop and accredit high quality programmes for the youth and community sectors.

Its mission is: “To promote human rights, social justice and equality, nationally and internationally, through excellence and innovation in education, research and public engagement that contribute to the development of the social professions and applied social sciences.”

 

What: This certificate, now in its third year, provides a blended and applied learning experience for participants seeking to develop their understanding of the context and practice of European Youth Mobility projects. It is delivered by Léargas, the Irish National Agency for Erasmus+ Youth in Action, and the Centre for Youth Research and Development at Maynooth University. The Certificate carries 20 credits on the European Credit Transfer System and is set at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

When: The Certificate Programme will be delivered in blocks between November 2018 and June 2019. It will include three blocks of 2-3 intensive days and a 4-5 day high-impact international study visit in Finland, totalling more than 100 hours of contact time. Students will be expected to undertake significant individual study and work outside of contact hours. The programme will be designed to facilitate participation from all areas of Ireland. Who: The Certificate is intended for: youth service managers; youth work practitioners; those experienced in the design, development and delivery of youth work programmes; those working with groups of young people; and those interested in developing high quality international mobility projects in the context of Erasmus+.

Why: On completion of the programme, students will have:
• detailed knowledge of the national and European contexts of mobility projects;
• an understanding of the principles and practices that underpin European mobility projects;
• expertise in planning, organising and undertaking a European mobility project;
• developed their project management skills;
• increased ability to provide access to mobility opportunities for young people.

How: The programme will use varied methods of delivery including: creative group-oriented methods; presentations; direct contact with youth organisations and groups; project management practice; and a study visit to Finland. Participation in the European Study Visit is a mandatory component of the programme. The programme will be underpinned by a range of challenging theoretical and policy concepts. The programme will be assessed in a variety of ways including assignments, individual and group presentations.
