VSI's Youth Climate Justice Project is back - will you get involved? We will bring together a small group of young people to learn about climate justice and what we can do to achieve it. Looking at the climate crisis from a human-centered perspective, we will focus on the inequalities caused by climate change, and aim to empower young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to advocate for climate justice.
Project overview
The project will start with an in-person workshop on Saturday 8th November, and will continue online for 4 evening workshops, from 10th – 12th November and on 17th November, with a final in-person workshop on Saturday 22nd November. Participants will attend interactive and informal workshops on climate justice, and, with our support, will use this learning to create a mini-social media campaign on climate justice, which will be shared on VSI's social media channels.
Workshops will include a guest speaker and professional training in campaign and social media skills, and there will be the option to attend a climate march, organised by 'Stop Climate Choas', in Dublin on 13th November. Interested participants will also be supported by VSI to organise and facilitate their own climate justice workshop in the new year. Workshop facilitation and presentation skills training will be provided to these participants to help them deliver their workshop. While we encourage participation in the whole project, if you are unable to commit to the whole duration, you may be able to attend some of the workshops, please let us know which ones you can make in the application form.
We'll explore the climate crisis from a human-centered perspective, focusing on the inequalities created by climate change, nationally and globally, and recognising climate action as one part of broader action towards reducing inequalities and poverty, and creating a better future for all. We're looking for participants who care about climate justice and want to learn more!

Time Commitment
The first workshop will be in-person in Dublin on Saturday, 8th November. Online workshops on Zoom will run from 18:30 – 20:30 each evening on 10th, 11th, 12th and 17th November. Participants are encouraged to do a little follow-up reading/watching on issues raised in the online sessions in their own time (20 mins per day).
Following the online workshops, participants will work on mini-social media campaign that will be disseminated as a follow-up to the project. Participants will be given individual support to develop their campaigns. Participants should allow at least 3 hours for this activity, but can commit more time to this if they’d like.
To round up, there will be one more in-person workshop in Dublin on Saturday 22nd November.
Furthermore, participants will be invited to create and deliver their own short workshop on climate justice for the public with the support of VSI in the new year.
If you are unable to commit to the whole duration of the project, you may be able to attend just some of the workshops. Please let us know which ones you would like to attend in the application form (places will be allocated to those who can attend the whole project first).
Support and Funding
Volunteers will be fully reimbursed for their travel to Dublin and accommodation will be provided for people living in areas with poor connections to Dublin. Meals and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
VSI can provide financial support to participants to ensure they have reliable internet connection during the online phase of the project if needed. If you don't have access to a device, let us know and we will try to provide a device for the duration of the project.
As mentioned, you may not be required to attend the whole project if you have other commitments. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis and you must let us know in advance if this is the case.
