Instead of taking part in EU-funded European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteering projects abroad, why not experience doing an ESC project at home with a dynamic international organisation?

VSI is now welcoming applications for the following ESC roles: Programme Officer and Communications and Marketing Officer, both based in our office in Dublin city centre. We are looking for two volunteers (aged 18 to 30) from Ireland to join our team from November 2020 for a period of 12 months.

As the Irish branch of Service Civil International (SCI), a worldwide peace movement that began in 1920, VSI work to promote peace, social justice, sustainable development and intercultural understanding.  We do this through volunteering activities internationally and in Ireland and through non-formal educational activities. We work with young people and encourage them to participate in VSI’s programmes to promote their engagement with the concepts and ideas of peace, solidarity, social justice, intercultural understanding, development education and active citizenship.

The ESC volunteers will work in supportive roles with the VSI staff team.

The Communications and Marketing Officer will focus on the marketing and promotion of VSI’s programmes including maintaining VSI’s social media and website, producing our newsletter and leaflets, volunteer recruitment, attending volunteer fairs, delivering presentations on VSI’s opportunities and volunteering, membership development and maintaining and developing VSI’s photo library and archive. This role would suit someone who is interested in working in marketing and who has an interest in international relations, development education, international youth work or human rights.

The Programme Officer will focus on volunteer recruitment, administration of volunteer placements, supporting volunteers during volunteer projects while abroad and/or in Ireland, liaison with our national and international partners, supporting ongoing projects and assisting with arranging new projects, attending volunteer fairs, delivering presentations and non-formal workshops on peace, social justice and development education. This role would suit someone who is interested in working in international relations, development education, international youth work or human rights.

The volunteers will attend an international meeting in Europe with our partner organisations as well as workshops and webinars/seminars in Ireland. Our volunteer projects cover a wide range of topics including peace and human rights education, environmental conservation/climate justice and supporting refugees and asylum seekers; the volunteers will learn about these subjects and more. They will be immersed in VSI’s activities and will gain insight and experience of working with a national and international NGO. The projects will increase the volunteers' awareness of peace, solidarity, social justice, intercultural understanding, development education and active citizenship. The volunteers will meet lots of young people from different backgrounds as well as people of all generations through various networks and projects.

Funding for living expenses will be provided plus mentoring support for the volunteer’s personal and professional development.

Closing date for the applications: 4.00 pm 7th October 2020.

Interviews will take place during the week beginning 12th October.
