SCI Official statement on President Trump’s intention to move US embassy to Jerusalem
13 Dec 2017
SCI Statement regarding the declaration of Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
2 weeks ago a group of SCI Catalonia visited the SCI partners in Palestine/Israel with whom some SCI branches have been working together for many years. We got the opportunity to learn about the situation in Palestine/Israel and to understand better how daily life in the Occupied Territories is affected by the Israeli occupation as well as the discrimination Palestinians are facing in Israel. We also got to know many examples of nonviolent resistance in the Occupied Territories and Israel.
Our partners in Palestine/Israel also told us how important it is to have international support or to receive signs of solidarity when you’re undergoing repression and you’re trying to build and maintain nonviolent resistance.
That’s why today we want to show our full support for the Palestinian people and their liberation struggle. We denounce the complicity of the USA with a repressive state such as the State of Israel.
We believe that is our task to stand with our partners and that staying neutral in situations of injustice is choosing the side of the oppressor. We have observed serious violations of human rights and negligence of international law and feel we cannot stay silent.
In line with SCI’s values, we as SCI, we condemn the violations of international human rights and the use of state violence in Israel/Palestine. We want to express our support to our partners who face these abuses and violence daily and who commit themselves to a nonviolent struggle in order to achieve a just society.
We want to recall a recommendation that was accepted by the SCI International Committee Meeting some years ago to promote the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign (known as BDS Campaign) as an awareness raising tool and to actively promote adherence to the campaign in order to denounce the complicity of many companies, institutions and governments with the discriminatory and occupation policies and practices of the State of Israel.
