Summer in a Refugee Camp in Syria
Refugees, immigrants and ethnic minorities - Middle East
I took part in the project at the Yarmuck Palestinian Refugee Camp near Damascus in Syria during July 2008. The project brought 40 people from all over Europe and the focus was the life of Palestinians in exile. We visited many NGO's and Palestinian organizations. There are 300,000 to 400,000 Palestinians living in Syria today and the various lectures, project visits, workshops, family visits gave me a great insight into the political situation of the Middle East. We did not undertake any physical or social work while there but took part in the educational programme which our hosts had organised.
It was a truly great learning experience.
