Placement officer in SCI office in Switzerland

Our branch organisation SCI Switzerland are looking for a volunteer to work with them in the office in Berne, starting in January 2019 for 12 months.

About the organisation

Service Civil International (SCI) Switzerland is a peace organization, which is organizing 20 short-term International Volunteer Projects with around 150 international volunteers every year. 100 volunteers from Switzerland are participating every year in camps abroad. There are currently 4 staff members working part time and EVS volunteers in the office.

Volunteer’s role

The main task of the Placement officer is the placement of short-term volunteers at International Volunteer Projects in Switzerland and abroad. The volunteer will also be involved in International Volunteer Projects planning & publication, in helping the staff with the conception and realization of workshops and preparation weekends intended for the future participants of the International Volunteer Projects and in evaluation of the projects. In these activities the volunteer have the opportunity to get used to non-formal learning methods and to experience the role of a trainer. During International Volunteer Project season the two EVS volunteers will also have the possibility to visit projects themselves and even take part in one of the projects as a Project Coordinator. Furthermore, the volunteer can also develop their own projects/research/activities on a specific topic according to their skills & interests.


The volunteer should have good knowledge of English and German and ideally some French or Italian. The volunteer should share SCI values, be motivated to work with young people and volunteers from different countries and cultures, and interested in office work!


For volunteer's accommodation SCI looks for a host (family) where a room and food are provided or as a backup SCI rents a room in the campus and the volutneer gets a budget for food. Lunch during the week is usually prepared among the people in the SCI office.

The European Voluntary Service (EVS) is an EU funded programme that gives young people (aged 18 to 30) the opportunity to volunteer in an organisation abroad. The funding covers travel expenses to and from the project as well as accommodation, food, a small personal allowance (”pocket money”), insurance, language training and local transport during the project.
