Learn professional working skills by assisting within the SCI-Hellas office

Kinisi Ethelonton Service Civil International Hellas (SCI-Hellas), is a nongovernmental organzsation based in Athens working with young refugees, organizing local activities that aim both at the empowerment and social inclusion of them and at the awareness of the wider community. The young refugees work together with our EVS and Greek volunteers to produce and present theatrical pieces on the issues that they face in their everyday life in Greece.
We are looking for a young person from Ireland to join this project starting on the 1st of May 2019 for 5 months.
About the organization
Hellas is the Greek branch of Service Civil International, an international voluntary movement that aims to promote Peace, Solidarity and Intercultural Understanding through organizing international voluntary projects, campaigns and seminars. Through its actions, SCI tries to enhance the peaceful cooperation of people from different cultural and social backgrounds, as well as, encourage the direct participation of citizens in the solution of social problems. During the past two years, SCI-Hellas has been organizing activities with refugees while implementing events and campaigns to raise awareness of their situation within the general Greek population.
Key roles for EVS volunteers include project planning and promotion, communication and social media, event organisation, implementation of projects, and personal projects in accordance with SCI values and projects. The volunteers will have the support of a mentor and the rest of the SCI-Hellas team to plan and implement their personal projects. Examples of personal projects can be: creating a workshop for kids in a refugee community, organising cultural movie nights, or local activities for shared cultural understanding. As an exchange officer in the SCI-Hellas office, volunteers will work with refugee and immigrant groups in workshops covering a variety of subjects (i.e. theatre, creative workshops with women refugees, etc).
Training during the project
During the first two weeks, volunteers will have the chance to participate in orientation trainings, regarding SCI values and projects. Throughout the project volunteers will learn facilitation of group activities, communication and promotion, team work, how to work in a multicultural environment, organizational and planning skills, and the value of creativity in a professional office setting.
The ideal volunteers for SCI - Hellas will be aged 18-30, ideally have some experience in and willingness to coordinate volunteer projects, knowledge of the communication field, skills in video creation and editing, and a curiosity to discover new things. SCI would like to host caring, enthusiastic, funny, creative, sporty, musical, practical, socially engaged and/or entrepreneurial young people with or without relevant qualifications. SCI will expect volunteers to to live in a multicultural environment, cooperate with people of a different cultural background, and use English as their main language of communication.
This project is funded by the EU and standard EVS rules apply. You will receive free accommodation (at a host family), food, insurance and monthly ‘pocket money’. Bus passes will be arranged. During the Summer Schools mini-buses will collect volunteers and children.

The European Voluntary Service (EVS)/ European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is an EU funded programme that gives young people (aged 18 to 30) the opportunity to volunteer in an organisation abroad. The funding covers travel expenses to and from the project as well as accommodation, food, a small personal allowance (”pocket money”), insurance, language training and local transport during the project.
