Syncro is an organization active in the field of education, personal development, skills training and youth support. They're looking for a volunteer from Ireland to join their group EVS project from 27th April to 22nd June 2019.

About the organization

Syncro was founded in 2010 with the aim of supporting the enhancement of quality of living and the development of human potential through powerful educational and personal development experiences. Being a part of International Synergy Group, Syncro are joined in the common vision of creating a world that works for everyone. Syncro's mission is to encourage young people to reach their potential, to create a learning space through personal development training, to support education and the involvement of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, to provide opportunities for cooperation in the youth field and to create opportunities for expression of creativity and enjoyment in life, while including everyone.

Volunteer’s role

During 8 weeks (28.04.2019. - 23.06.2019.) 10 volunteers from different countries will implement intercultural workshops in local school and library in Savica neighbourhood, Zagreb for children aged 6 - 10. Participants of this project will create and implement those workshop in pair with elderly local volunteers who are keen to volunteer together with young international volunteers. Volunteers will be presenting their countries, language, history and culture to 120 children in 6 groups through an after-school stay in the local school and estimated additional 120 children from neighbourhood attending 3 other schools in the area through workshops in the local library.
Volunteers will organize 5 Syncro workshops through 5 Mondays on the activity. These workshops will give the opportunity for local youth to get to know the volunteers and the countries they come from. The content of the workshops will be based on the topic of interculturality. Apart from that volunteers will implement their individual personal projects - the personal project will be a part of this volunteers activity that will give a space for the volunteers to create something that they have always wanted to do, something that is for free for the people participating in it and something that aims at improving the quality of lives in the local community. Syncro will give support to the volunteers by creating a frame for their actions, coaching them to express their ideas, agreeing on deadlines and next steps, but the content of these projects will be created by the volunteers themselves.

Requirements

No specific skills or experience are required for this role but the volunteer should be highly motivated to join this project.

Accommodation

All 10 volunteers will be living in Whole Wide World Hostel located in the centre of Zagreb. For the
purpose of this project, there will be rooms booked only for the participants of this project.
Each olunteer will receive pocket money and money for the food, total of 250 EUR per month.
The volunteers will be provided with public transportation tickets for the duration of the project.

Costs

The European Voluntary Service (EVS)/ European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is an EU funded programme that gives young people (aged 18 to 30) the opportunity to volunteer in an organisation abroad. The funding covers travel expenses to and from the project as well as accommodation, food, a small personal allowance (”pocket money”), insurance, language training and local transport during the project.
